Community Safety Standard

Rider Safety Pledge

Compulsory for all Seat Givers & Seat Finders • Emergency: 112

When two commuters share a two-wheeler, trust and mutual responsibility are paramount. Every member of the Pillion community commits to following these essential safety rules on every single ride.

1

1. Helmets for Both, Every Time

An ISI-certified helmet is strictly compulsory for both the rider and the pillion passenger before the motorcycle or scooter begins moving. No helmet = no ride. Seat givers are encouraged to keep a spare helmet or confirm with the passenger prior to pickup.

2

2. Zero Overloading (Strictly 1 Passenger)

Two-wheelers are designed for two people only. We enforce a strict rule of maximum one passenger per vehicle. Triple riding, carrying oversized baggage that impairs balance, or modifying seating capacity is strictly prohibited.

3

3. 100% Sober & Attentive Riding

Zero tolerance for riding, driving, or commuting under the influence of alcohol, prescription drugs that impair reflexes, or illegal substances. Seat givers must stay attentive, observe posted speed limits, and avoid mobile phone distractions while riding.

4

4. Respect Women-Only Preferences

We believe in safe, comfortable commuting for everyone. Female commuters have the option to match exclusively with verified women riders and passengers. Members must strictly respect gender preferences and maintain professional, respectful boundaries.

5

5. Full Traffic Law Compliance & Roadworthy Vehicles

Seat givers agree to obey all Indian Motor Vehicles Act rules, maintain lane discipline, stop at red lights, and ensure their vehicle has a valid Registration Certificate (RC), active insurance, and current PUC. Seat finders agree not to distract the rider.

6

6. Emergency Support & Incident Reporting

Safety tools built directly into the app:

  • Emergency SOS: Tapping the in-app SOS button initiates a direct phone call to 112 (National Emergency Helpline) and sends an emergency alert email with ride details to the Pillion safety response team. (Note: We route calls directly to emergency authorities; we do not operate a private 24x7 phone dispatch desk or broadcast SMS).
  • Reporting Issues: You can report unsafe riding, rude conduct, route discrepancies, or hygiene issues directly in the app after each ride, or email us at [email protected].

Our Multi-Tier Verification Safeguards

Before sharing a commute, you can review your co-commuter's verification badges:

  • Google Account Verification: Firebase cryptographic token authentication.
  • Work Email Verification: One-time password (OTP) sent to an active corporate email address (`@company.com`).
  • UIDAI Aadhaar Secure QR Check: Cryptographic offline e-KYC signature verification with zero Aadhaar number retention.
  • Driving Licence & Vehicle RC Review: Encrypted document upload (AES-256-GCM) reviewed by our ops team and immediately deleted.

Report a Safety Concern

If you encounter unsafe riding or any policy violation, notify our safety team immediately:
